Scams, scams and more scams

WATCH OUT!

Well everyone, it's happening again...keep your ears and eyes out for the latest scams, cons, tricks or whatever nasty words you'd like to call them.

There are still high numbers of phone calls going around at the moment claiming to be from Microsoft who apparently detect a problem with your computer, ask for access to it and then supposedly "fix it". DON'T DO IT! They actually "break" the PC and then try and charge you an arm and a leg! Microsoft wouldn't ring you for starters...

Also, another scam going around is a Paypal email scam which could vary in price however it all comes down to money. The Paypal message basically reads that a transaction is going out of your account click here to decline. You then "Click here" fill out your login information and....wait for it...BAM! They have your details to steal money from you...don't do it, it's fake!

Also, another one going around is a BT one where the caller says they're from BT and you have an outstanding bill. Now this probably wouldn't wash with those who are so up on their accounts that they know what has gone in and out of the account like the back of their hand. However, for those who don't really worry to much about it and just pay it watch out...the called says if you don't pay they'll cut you off....well BT can't just do that, they have to give you fair warning. Anyways, the caller says they'll prove it by cutting your phone off. When you hang up and try to dial you apparently can't. This is because the caller is hanging on the phone. When you've finished panicking and hang up they ring off, call again and say "There you go, now pay up". Again, don't do it! BT wouldn't do such a thing.

There are plenty of other scams at the moment online and plenty of these really naff adverts which you really shouldn't click on! To help ensure you don't see these online adverts and to help block pop-ups (not completely pop-up proof but certainly helps). Use Google Chrome for browsing the internet and install "AdBlock" from the extensions library. The version that I find works best is the one with the white hand in an octagon (seen below).

Don't forget to get yourself a decent anti-virus software which can actually protect you online, check links, safe browsing etc.
